APPNA Alberta 2022 Events Summary
Alhamdolillah, I am happy to report that since I was elected as the president of Alberta Chapter in early 2022, the chapter has continued to progress with more memberships and chapter activities through the new chapter committees. YPC, Educational Committee, SWDRC and membership committee have been working tirelessly in the chapter activities as follows:
First APPNA Alberta Chapter Election
The first APPNA Alberta Chapter elections were held successfully and the reins have been handed over to the new team through a proper democratic model. Founding president Dr Tariq Awan transitioned successfully to the new elected team. Heartiest Congratulations and best wishes to Dr Saad Yasin, President and his team Dr Sameena Bajwa: President elect, Dr Amir Aslam: General Secretary, Dr Tehmina Munaf: Treasurer, Dr AQ Kamran: BOD, Dr Hatim Karachiwala : BOD and Dr Tariq Awan: Immediate Past President. Special thanks and appreciation to our NEC for conducting the elections in a best professional manner. Fundraiser for Ramadan food Hampers
Members of Alberta Chapter raised over $25000 at the Annual Ramadan fundraiser. Food hampers were distributed in collaboration with Islamic Relief Canada to deserving people in Pakistan during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
APPNA Alberta Eid Party
APPNA Eid party for all the members and family was held on May 14, 2022 at Habebes Banquet Hall, Calgary.The evening was graced by the distinguished guests including Mayor of Calgary Jyoti Gondek, honorable Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism Mr. Muhammad Yaseen, Honourable MLA Mr Irfan Sabir, Councillor Ward 3 Jasmine Mian, Pakistan Canada Association Calgary president Mr Imtiaz Khader. APPNA Alberta Chapter received appreciation from the Government of Alberta for providing excellent health services to Albertans.
APPNA Western Canada Conference
Dr Saad Yasin presided over the first APPNA Western Canada Conference which was held on August 19-20, 2022 in Banff Alberta Canada. The conference was chaired by Dr Ashfaq Shuaib and co-chaired by Dr Tariq Awan. The conference planning committee was led by Dr Yasmin Majeed and her team including Dr Najma Jameel from Saskatchewan, Dr Babra Rana from BC, Dr Mubeen Rafay from Manitoba and other host committee members from Alberta including Dr Amir Aslam, Dr Sameena Bajwa, Dr Dr Khursheed Khan, Dr AQ Kamran, Dr Tehmina Munaf, Dr Muzaffar Siddiqui. The conference was well attended by physicians from across Canada, USA, UK, and Pakistan including APPNA Executives Dr Haroon Durrani, Dr Rizwan Khalid, Dr Asif Muhiuddin along with the other distinguished leadership of APPNA. On both days, the morning CME was followed by the afternoon session on reviewing APPNA’s role in North America specifically in Western Canada and achievements in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Evening entertainment was provided by Alamgir and Kamran Mehdi Hasan. “Late Dr Hussam Bawa Lifetime achievement award” was awarded to Dr Ali Rajput for his lifetime commitments and services.
Outstanding service awards to Dr Haroon Durrani, President APPNA and Dr Rizwan Khalid Immediate Past President APPNA, outstanding service awards to MLA Irfan Sabir and Lifetime achievement award for community service over 40 years to Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism Mr Mohammad Yaseen were also awarded.
3rd Annual APPNA Alberta Chapter Hike
Hike was held on August 21, 2022 in Banff. Members and their family across Canada and the USA participated.
Pakistan Emergency Floods Relief
APPNA Albert Chapter SWDRC responded swiftly and raised just over $35000 from its generous members.The campaign was successfully led by Dr Sameena Bajwa and Dr Tariq Awan. With collaboration of ICNA, who was already on the ground, the donations reached the most deserving ones on time. Tents, food packs, clean drinking water, mosquito nets, and hot meals were distributed to the people of Badin in Sindh, Pakistan. Thank you everyone who contributed to this noble cause.
4th APPNA Health Care Day 2022
APPNA Health Care Day was held on November 06, 2022 in Calgary. It was led by APPNA Educational Committee lead Dr Samina Noor. There was an active participation from physicians, IMGs, Volunteers, dentist, pharmacist and other allied health care professionals including physiotherapist and educators. Interactive lectures were organized to create public awareness on the medical conditions like Diabetes, Domestic Violence, Osteoporosis and fall prevention, Youth Mental health and dental health. Educational booths were set up to provide information including health checks such as BMI, blood pressure, blood sugar. Distinguished guests were present including Parliamentary Secretary for community outreach Mr Muhammad Yaseen, MLA Mr Irfan Sabir, Councillor Ward 3 Jasmin Mian, Candidate MLA Amanpreet Singh Gill. The APPNA Health Care Day attracted national media and coverage was broadcasted on CBC news.
Season of Giving Donation to CUPS
Every year during the month of December, APPNA Alberta Chapter remembers those who are less fortunate and do not have roof over their head and food on the table. This year members raised $5250 and donated to CUPS Calgary.
