President’s Message
Dr. Tehmina Munaf
I am grateful to the APPNA Alberta community for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as
President for the 2026–2027 term. Building on my previous leadership roles within APPNA Alberta
chapter, I remain deeply committed to service, collaboration, and fostering an inclusive and
engaged community.
My vision for this term is to expand opportunities for advocacy, leadership, and meaningful
participation. I encourage all members to contribute actively, as we will soon be inviting
expressions of interest for committee involvement while continuing to support the important work
of our existing committees through transparent governance, accountability, and leadership
development.
A key priority for me is strengthening support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) through
the Young Physicians Committee by providing mentorship, exam guidance, and clinical exposure
opportunities. I also remain committed to establishing the Nominations and Elections Committee
and the Ethics and Grievance Committee in accordance with our bylaws.
In addition, I aim to expand our social welfare and disaster relief initiatives, increase year-round
community engagement, and build partnerships that address mental health, education, and social
well-being. We plan to introduce frequent health awareness sessions, launch a health-focused
podcast, develop youth mentorship programs, and create a confidential database of Pakistani
healthcare professionals in Alberta to enhance mentorship and guidance.
As a volunteer-driven organization, I am committed to recognizing our volunteers, strengthening
social advocacy, celebrating cultural and religious events, and increasing community engagement
beyond scheduled programs. I invite all physicians, residents, and IMGs to become members of
APPNA Alberta as we work together toward a year of growth, unity, and meaningful impact.

Immediate Past President’s Message
Dr. Amir Aslam
It is my absolute pleasure and honor to be elected as a General Secretary in the 2022 APPNA Alberta election. I am a proud APPNA lifetime member. As a Pakistani Physician, APPNA is a powerful platform for me, and I enjoyed working with APPNA Alberta Chapter in the last couple of years as a member in various social, educational, and philanthropic activities. I like that APPNA has a democratic model and leadership roles available to all interested members. APPNA Alberta Chapter has a mission and goal to bring all Pakistani descent physicians & health professionals in Alberta under one banner and create a family environment where we can socialize, participate in educational activities and help people in need locally and abroad, especially in Pakistan. I invite all Pakistani descent physicians and health professionals to join APPNA Alberta Chapter so that together and united, we can play our role better in our society.

Executive Director
Dr. Tariq Awan, MD, CCFP, FCFP
It has been an absolute pleasure and honour to serve APPNA Alberta chapter as its Founding President, Immediate Past President, and now Executive Director for the past 2 years. Alhamdulillah, we’ve achieved unprecedented successes since the chapter’s inception in 2019. These achievements are dedicated to our membership, leadership, community, supporters, and well-wishers.
A strong foundation has been laid, and we’ve handed over the reins to our young leadership through fair and timely elections. We’re proud to present our historic, diverse board led by our first female President, first female Non-licensed IMG as General Secretary, also a trailblazing first Pakistani Hindu member on the board, and last but not least, our Treasurer from the Dentistry field. This diverse board showcases members from across Alberta, including rural Alberta.
At APPNA Alberta, our goal is to grow together. I’ll continue working with dedication to advance our organization’s vision and mission, and achieve our goals: professional development through continuous education, scientific research, helping our young physicians, philanthropy, and social-cultural networking – locally in Canada and abroad in Pakistan.
I’ll safeguard APPNA Alberta’s interests and continue efforts to unite Pakistani-descent physicians under one banner for collective recognition and community services, while upholding the bylaws and maintaining professionalism. With empowered young leadership and senior colleagues’ support, I see a bright future for our organization,
Insha’Allah
Long live APPNA
